Kimberly Waples
Kimberly was 6 years old when she began her dancing career at the Laverne Meier School of Dance in St.Louis. Realizing that Acrobatics was one of her strengths, she began training in gymnastics and became the Region Beam, Floor Exercise, and All-Around Class 1 Champion. Following her gymnastics success, Kimberly won several dance titles and scholarship opportunities.
Kimberly’s teaching career began at the age of twelve teaching Acro at the studio where she trained. Within a short period of time she was teaching all aspects of dance including Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Acro and Lyrical. Traveling extensively, Kimberly was given the opportunity to learn from some of the great dance instructors in the country. Her desire and aptitude to teach and choreograph sent her in many facinating directions exploring many facets of dance and gymnastics. Judging Regency Talent Competitions for more than 14 years added to her understanding of dance performance and competition. In 1994, Kimberly moved to San Antonio,Texas and began coaching Optional level and Elite level gymnastics at South Texas Gymnastics Academy. Coaching with husband, Steve, her South Texas Gymnastics team became the most successful Junior Olympic team in the United States qualifiying more athletes to the Junior Olympic Nationals year after year than any other gym in the country. Kimberly also coached two-time Olympian, World Champion and Olympic Gold medalist, Henrietta Onodi as well as 2001 World Team Member, Ashley Miles. Her coaching success included many individual and National titles for her gymnasts. Her choreography gained her a reputation of being one of the top choreographers in the country and was soon choreographing routines internationaly. Kimberly feels that her biggest success is the fact that every gymnast that graduated from her program received a full-ride college scholarship. Steve and Kimberly retired from gymnastics coaching in 2002 and moved to Prescott with their three young boys. Then, along came daughter Brekyn and Kimberly felt it was time to step back into the dance arena. Kimberly’s love for dance and teaching is a passion that runs deep. She still travels from time to time to choeograph floor routines for athletes around the country. With more than 30 years teaching experience,The Dance Studio family is the perfect forum for her talent and teaching abilities to strengthen and help beautify The Rhythm Motion Company into the best that it can be. For Kimberly it is a pleasure to make this journey with the children she works with, and exciting to see how far she can help them progress as they make their way through their dance careers.
