Class Placement Policy
A. CRITERIA
Teachers are accountable for teaching at the assigned class level. Levels 3, 4 & 5 in the styles of Ballet, Tap, and Jazz, are open only to eligible dancers who have the technique, flexibility and strength to support upper level dance movements.
B. RATIONALE
Individuals develop physically and emotionally at different speeds, as do their dancing skills. To reach their full potential technically as individuals they must be placed at their appropriate ability level. Turn out, flexibility and muscle development, must be mature to support upper level dance movement. Comprehension of musicality, choreography, and terminology are also just as important. It is not unusual for a student to remain in a one particular level for a few years.
When students progress to upper levels, there is a commitment increase from both the student and faculty. Much more is expected from the teacher to guarantee advanced students are continually challenged physically, mentally and artistically. Miss placement of one student can hinder the learning process of an entire class.
C. ELIGIBILITY
Student progress according to individual development advance according to evaluation by the student’s Instructor and the Artistic Director. On June 2nd a CLASS PLACMENT AUDITION will take place at The Dance Studio. This is an effective tool to assist and ensure parents, students and faculty gets the most of their efforts in dance. All students are encouraged to attend however, not required for class placement.
Have faith in us to provide you with highest level of performance that we can. Each dancer is as important as the next, so we place each student where we feel they will gain the most confidence and have the most FUN. A dancer must be challenged, not overwhelmed.
